Challenge 1: Create a Welcoming Accessibility Statement Video Transcript

Heidi and Venecia: Welcome explorers to our BC campus UDL Challenge series.

Venecia: My name is Venecia Williams

Heidi: And I’m Heidi Parisotto.

Venecia: So for the very first challenge in our series, we are asking you to create a welcoming accessibility statement. Heidi, why is this important?

Heidi: Well, an accessibility statement is a great first step to implementing UDL into your courses. It really shows a level of commitment towards designing a course that is inclusive and welcoming to all students.

Venecia: This is important, Heidi, and it connects to the principle of engagement, specifically recruiting interest. When instructors really take the time to create a welcoming accessibility statement we really are telling students that we care about their learning and more importantly, that we are willing to rise to any challenges that are presented in our classes.

Heidi: Exactly. So our challenge for you this time around is to create your own welcoming accessibility statement for your courses.

Venecia: We will have some instructions, examples, and some useful links below the video.

Heidi: Until then, happy exploring.

Heidi and Venecia: Bye!
